Blue Origin has successfully launched an All-Female crew into space since 1963

On June 16, 1963, Valentina Tereshkova became the world's first female astronaut, completing 48 orbits before returning to orbit. Tereshkova's success proved that space was not exclusively a male domain but also a female domain. After almost 62 years, last night, Blue Origin made history by successfully sending six female astronauts into space. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, on New Shepard Mission NS-31, six astronauts, including singer Katy Perry, host Gail King, Kerianne Flynn, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, and Amanda Nguyen, were successfully launched into space for 11 minutes. This made NS-31 the first all-female mission since Valentina Tereshkova.

This is Blue Origin's 11th mission to successfully send astronauts into space. Unlike SpaceX, Blue Origin is only able to offer a "travel" experience into space for a few minutes before the crew capsule returns to Earth via parachute. Jezz Bezos himself became the first crew member successfully sent into space by Blue Origin in 2021. On the NS-31 mission, his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez was given the honor of being a crew member.

Blue Origin wants to popularise the space travel experience with Virgin Galactic. Virgin Galactic is currently facing bankruptcy due to a lack of demand. Blue Origin has successfully tested the New Glenn rocket that can carry cargo and will be used to launch the Project Kuiper satellite internet system that competes with Starlink.
