Looks like motorcyclists in Malaysia are in for a treat. During Belanjawan 2025 (Budget 2025), the Malaysian government announced the CKD Motorcycle Use Promotion Scheme (locally developed) with a subsidy of RM2400 to enable the public to buy electric motorcycles at a more affordable price. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the scheme will continue with an allocation of another RM10 million to increase the number of electric motorbikes in the country. This follows the announcement that Perodua is currently developing an electric car that will come with a price tag below RM100K.

In addition, this move is mostly anticipated by Malaysians especially when all the electric cars sold now come with a price tag higher than that value. Interestingly, the government announced tax reductions for everyone who installs a home EV charger or rents EVs. Plus, the fees for motorcycles, cars and E-haling licenses have been waived to encourage this effort.

Besides that, the government announced a monthly RM40 electricity rebate for poor families (B40). This is a welcomed addition to this year’s budget given the ever-increasing prices of necessities these days.
