CD Projekt Red giving away free GOG copy of The Witcher 3 but there's a catch

Epic Games Store has been giving out a lot of games and Steam constantly has discounts, but GOG (Good Old Games) has the occasional freebie as well. In conjunction with the fifth anniversary of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has announced that it will be giving away free copies of the game on GOG.

While that sounds fine and dandy, there are a few caveats to this deal. First, you have to own a copy of regular edition or Game of the Year Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It will have to be on a PC platform other than GOG (Steam/Origin/Epic Games) or consoles (PS4/Xbox One). If you fulfil those requirements, then you can redeem a free copy of The Witcher 3 on GOG.

To do so, you'll have to sign up for an account on GOG first. Next, log in to GOG and click on The Witcher 3 offer and it'll prompt you to link the account of the platform that has your existing copy of The Witcher to the GOG account. Once that's done, you should be able to redeem a copy of the normal or GOTY edition, depending on which copy you already own.

It sounds very tedious, but it's a great way to grab an extra copy that you can give to friends, as the GOG version is DRM-free. With that said, have you already played this game before?
