When Nothing launched the CMF Phone 1 last month, it offered a refreshing take on smartphone design with its removable back plate. But there are many devices with quirks or issues at launch, and the CMF Phone 1 is one of them.
According to Android Authority, it was discovered that the CMF Phone 1's depth sensor can see through certain things. This depth sensor refers to the 2MP sensor accompanying the 50MP main camera. While it's not normally accessible, it's possible through the camera app with developer mode. For example, the camera could see the batteries inside a TV remote through the plastic cover.

Although it sounds innocuous, users claimed privacy concerns and potential for misuse. In response, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis announced an upcoming software update to restrict third-party apps from directly accessing the depth sensor. He agreed that the unexpected feature was cool, but will restrict it to play it safe.
