The advancement of technology meant more freedom and creativity for everyone. But that could mean more harm too. Since the MCMC is responsible for the curation of media in Malaysia, does that mean they can check your phones too? This is what a minister has to say about it.

According to Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital, Teo Nien Chun, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) must obtain a search warrant (warrant) to inspect people's mobile phones. She also added that should there be an emergency, the MCMC can seek police support for relevant persons to hand over electronic devices or phones. However, this is only applicable to police personnel above the rank of Inspector.

For your information, this issue was brought up by Kepong MP Lim Li Ying on why the MCMC is allowed access to civilian phones. Li Ying also added that the MCMC has confiscated a total of 220 electronic devices between 2019 and 2023. That includes mobile phones, tablets and laptops.
