On 23 March 2022, Carl Pei, the founder of the Nothing brand took the opportunity to announce a new device. Often mistook as an audio company, we all knew that wasn't the case as he officially announced the Nothing phone (1).

During the Nothing Event, Pei said that the Nothing phone (1) will be the core of the company and could bring back the excitement of innovation once again like how the iPhone first did it. Although the phone (1) was not present, he did share a few tips about it such as the partnership with Qualcomm. It would probably be equipped with a Snapdragon chipset but we aren't sure if it's the mid-range or high-end type.

The phone (1) will be running on a new operating system called the Nothing OS based on Android. According to Pei, there will be 40% fewer bloatware apps on the phone (1), it will also be fast and smooth (we hope so too) by prioritising actives apps while apps that aren't used won't use any RAM.

We also got a teaser of what the phone (1) UI looks like which isn't much, considering how it looks like every other phone. However, it has a seamless transition from the locked screen to the home menu that looks cool, to be honest. Pei also promised three years of OS updates and four years of security updates.

The Nothing OS will be an open ecosystem where it allows all kinds of devices including Apple products and third-party products to be connected to the phone (1). Finally, Pei said the Nothing OS launcher will be launching in April where users can test it out on their respective devices. As for the phone (1), it will be coming soon in Summer 2022.
