At the end of January, it was revealed that Carl Pei, the former OnePlus co-founder revealed his new startup brand called "Nothing". Not much information was given but it appears that their first products would be a pair of wireless earbuds. Now it seems that they may make and expand a new ecosystem with Essential.

In case you have never heard of Essential, it was a brand that tried to enter the smartphone industry without much success in the UK. In their portfolio, they only had the Essential PH1 and a successor was to be followed up before transferring the ownership. They were also planning a slim and rectangular smartphone at some point.

About the transferred ownership, it was discovered that the UK Intellectual Property Office showed that the transfer was filed way back on 11 November 2020. Nothing now owns all of Essential IPs which includes the logo and trademarks. Perhaps Carl can do something about that slim phone? We shall see.
