Opensignal's latest Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2024 report has some interesting key findings on Malaysia's telco 5G operations. According to the report, all six of Malaysia’s national operators are listed in the Global Rising Stars for Download Speed Experience.
In the Global Rising Stars for Download Speed Experience in Group I, all six telcos are Celcom, Digi, Maxis, Yes, unifi and U Mobile. As you should know, the 5G connectivity network is still relatively young since it launched two years ago via the 5G wholesale network (Digital Nasional Berhad – DNB). Hence, it's an improvement to see this.
Opensignal noted that in the Download Speed Experience, Maxis had the smallest improvement among the six telcos. This is due to the last player coming into the 5G network, launching 5G back in August 2023. Maxis didn't appear in the Upload Speed Experience, but the rest are there with different positions compared to the former section.
While CelcomDigi has merged their operations for over a year already, Opensignal analyzed them separately. Digi and Celcom have also continued to run their business as separate brands. If you would like to full details of the report, you can visit the official link here.
