Celcom has already begun 5G trials to employees and selected customers

We are almost at the end of the third quarter of the year and there's still barely any 5G connectivity in Malaysia. However, it looks like Celcom is preparing well for the next phase. Recently, the company just released its 1H2022 performance and here's what it says about 5G preparation. 

Datuk Idham Nawawi, the CEO of Celcom Axiata Berhad, said the company's 5G preparations are ongoing for both consumers and Enterprises. To date, Celcom has worked with relevant parties and has successfully integrated over 1,000 5G sites into its LTE and LTE-A networks. 

More importantly, Celcom has already started conducting 5G trials with its employees and started friendly 5G user trials for selected customers. The company is also collaborating with 39 local and international technology and digital partners to prepare a 5G ecosystem, solutions and services across industries. 

Besides that, there are also other highlights from Celcom's 1H2022 performance review:

  • Revenue and profit grew by 2% and 125% YTD respectively
  • 4G and 4G LTE-A population coverage stands at 96.21% and 90.20% respectively
  • Adding 278K subscribers over the year
  • Data utilisation per month per user increased by 6%, hitting 24.2GB per month per user against 1H 2021
  • Overall service coverage resulted in a 73% increase in average download speeds
  • Network experience for Celcom users has a 44% reduction of complaints to date
