Celcom has recently introduced a new voice call service in Malaysia which allows for better calls over any WiFi network, regardless of mobile coverage. Called Voice Over WiFI (VoWIFI), the service allows users to make calls indoors through WiFI connection, hence the quality would be much better, especially if your mobile coverage indoors are not up to par.

According to Celcom’s official website, the service would be available for devices that has VoWIFI or Wi-Fi calling supported by the telco network. For now, there are only 9 compatible devices, which are:

The list will potentially be expanded in the future, so in order to check whether your device would be compatible, all you have to do is update your smartphone to its latest firmware, open settings, tab mobile network and select ‘mobile data’. If either ‘VoWIFI’ or ‘WIFI Calling’ are in the list, try enabling it to see whether your device would be compatible with Celcom’s VoWIFI service.

While the VoWIFI service enables for better and seamless calling experience, it also depends on the WiFI that you’re connected to. Hence, should your WiFi network be unstable, it is better to revert to VoLTE or regular calls.

Celcom’s introduction of VoWIFI makes it the third telco company in Malaysia to implement the service. Previously, Digi and Maxis have already made the service available for their users.
