CelcomDigi, in a statement today, said that it is “considering several options at hand” after it was snubbed for U Mobile in the awarding of Malaysia’s second 5G network. However, CelcomDigi assures that the decision will have no impact on its current 5G customers.

In the statement, the company believed that it had presented “a compelling technical and commercial proposal to build the second 5G network”. CelcomDigi added that it has a track record of investing in and deploying large-scale mobile networks, and delivering affordable, high-quality services to the rakyat.

This included the ability to commence nationwide rollout almost immediately after the spectrum award, to build a 5G network that will match the population coverage of our 4G and 4G+ network within the shortest time possible. Nevertheless, CelcomDigi assured that its priority remains to ensure that its customers have affordable access to a competitive, robust, and efficient 5G network.

The company will also discuss with various stakeholders to consider several viable options ahead to the benefit of our customers and shareholders. It further revealed that its network integration is now 68 per cent complete and 65 of its customers benefit from improved experience in the new CelcomDigi intelligent network, ahead of schedule
