CelcomDigi today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea’s SK Telecom to explore and develop Malaysia’s first operator-led mobile Metaverse platform. The MoU was signed at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona by Celcom Digi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi and SK Telecom CEO Young-sang Ryu.

In a press release, the Malaysian telco company said that the MoU would create new business opportunities by working together to develop and offer Metaverse and artificial intelligence (AI) use cases optimised for the Malaysian Market via CelcomDigi’s Innovation Centre. Moreover, the Metaverse platform will also enable the co-creation and unlocking of new Metaverse content for customers and businesses in our country.

Both companies intend to explore the creation of Metaverse services in various verticals. These include education, health, retail, and entertainment, contributing to the development of Malaysia’s Metaverse ecosystem.
