Recently, it was reported that OpenAI has also joined GenAI.mil, with the ChatGPT chatbot also added as an option on the website. OpenAI seems to agree that the DoW can use ChatGPT for this purpose. So, what should you know about it?
A specialised version for the US military
For your information, all three AI chatbots can be used by the DoW without any limits or restrictions, and according to them, the website can be accessed by 3 million US military members with 1.1 million unique users per month, and can be used for a variety of purposes, similar to what the regular user version offers, only with a US military context, including:
- Summarise and analyse policy and guidance documents
- Drafting and reviewing procurement materials and contracts
- Generate internal reports and compliance checklists
- Supports various research, planning, mission support and administrative workflows
Moreover, OpenAI says the DoW uses a customised version of ChatGPT that is approved for non-confidential tasks. The system runs on a government-authorised cloud infrastructure with built-in security controls and protections for highly sensitive Department data, giving the team secure access to generative AI and more.
