ChatGPT free-tier users can now create Studio Ghibli-style images (but with a catch)

Recently, the trend of users showing off their Studio Ghibli-inspired images has been flooding the internet. Initially available only for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced it is now free for normal ChatGPT users.

Yes, we are aware of the date today, but it's not April Fool's Day. Whether you're using the app or a web browser, everyone can now create a portrait image of Studio Ghibli style. However, there is a catch - it seems that each free-tier user can only generate three Studio Ghibli-style images per day. Altman also mentioned that since the trend is "melting" the company's GPUs, some could only make one, according to this source.

If you want to keep creating new Studio Ghibli-style images, then you would have to sign up for ChatGPT Plus or just wait for the next day. While they look wholesome, it was also met with some criticism online. Hayao Miyazaki, the Japanese film animator for Studio Ghibli who popularised this style, voiced his displeasure regarding AI-generated images nine years ago.
