ChatGPT is now available on many Volkswagen models including all vehicles in the ID electric series, the new Golf, Tiguan and Passat. This integration is only available in Europe for now, with North America coming soon. So, what should you know about it?

ChatGPT has been integrated into Volkswagen's own voice assistant, IDA, to complement the service and add more features, similar to how Apple handled its partnership with the OpenAI platform. This means customers can communicate with the vehicle using natural language, allowing the assistant to "answer questions on a variety of topics". IDA can already handle climate adjustment and voice-controlled navigation, but the addition of ChatGPT should make things run even more smoothly.

Volkswagen also states that this updated voice assistant can provide information on tourist attractions, reports on football matches and help solve math problems, making it as versatile as the regular ChatGPT but in a car. In terms of privacy, the company says that inquiries will only be sent to the cloud if IDA cannot handle them and that they are sent anonymously so that ChatGPT does not get your vehicle data.

In addition, this feature can also be completely deactivated via the Volkswagen settings app. ChatGPT integration will make its way to the United States with a 2025 release vehicle and a global rollout will follow shortly thereafter. It is available in English, Spanish, Czech and German.
