China has launched the world's first commercial operation of a metro train made of carbon fibre, known as CETROVO 1.0. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, it has started operating in Qingdao, Shandong, China. With the body and bogie frame made of 25% and 50% carbon fibre composite materials, the overall weight of this train is 11% lighter than conventional trains. This reduces energy consumption by 7% and reduces annual carbon dioxide emissions by 130 tons.
In addition, the benefits of using carbon fibre increase durability and extend the lifespan of the train structure. The digital twin-based intelligent maintenance platform, SmartCare, has been developed for this carbon fibre train.
The platform enables intelligent fault detection, real-time health monitoring and maintenance optimisation that will reduce overall repair costs. CETROVO 1.0 successfully combines technological innovations for more efficient operations and offers a better travel experience to passengers. We have yet to confirm other details on the news. But, it will be interesting to see if this technology will reach Malaysia too.
