Allwinner Technology is a Chinese fabless semiconductor company that creates their own system on a chip (SOC) for OEM smartphones that are both low cost and feature acceptable performance. What they recently created is not a phone however – it is a laptop, running RemixOS which they have named the Allwinner Octa A83T priced at just $79 (RM310). Check out the folks at ARMDevices giving it a hands-on below.
The Allwinner A64 quad-core ARM Cortex-A53, with an ARM Mali400MP2 GPU powers the laptop, and it comes with an 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 pixel display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. If you want more RAM and storage, the prices increases accordingly.
There is also a larger version of the laptop that comes with a 14 inch display if you want something a little bigger, as well as a 2-in-1 version for multi-form computing. The USD79 price is available for bulk pricing only for now, but we won’t be surprised if a different company will take the design and sell this in the Malaysian market for mass and cheap computing purposes.
