This morning, Cloudflare confirmed that yesterday's outage was not caused by a cyberattack, as was spread on social media. So, what should you know about it?

A change to the database caused it

For your information, a change to the ClickHouse database system caused the "feature file" configuration for the Bot Management module to double in size. Files that are too large exceed system limits, causing an increase in HTTP 5xx errors.

Moreover, Cloudflare's service came back and went down multiple times yesterday because these files are generated in rotation every 5 minutes. Cloudflare said that following this incident, they have tightened their handling of configuration files and added a global kill switch to prevent it from happening again in the future.
