One of the early VR adopters, the production studio Condition One, has created its own take of a VR camera, named ‘Bison’. This is an internal-use camera that is designed to capture 360 degree footage in the wild, thanks to its rugged design and construction. It houses 16 cameras inside the housing, to produce 360 degree stereoscopic 3D video, complete with 3D positional audio. What this means is that you can scroll the video around, and hear every sound like you are really there. Check out the video sample below.
The camera can capture 3D 4K video, up to 48 frames per second, and it can be exported to Youtube and any other supported 3D video player. Bison can shoot footage at distances as close as 60cm/2ft, has a 2 hour recording time, a thermal management system, custom aluminium rig, custom carbon fibre tripod, remote trigger with a 792m/2600ft range and tablet control – according to the company’s website. Companies and teams interested in creating movies with Bison will need to team up with the studio to gain access to the camera so no Malaysian release date just yet.
