Could AMD's Radeon Boost help the Radeon RX5500 become the new budget GPU king?

The GPU budget scene is about to get interesting. A major GPU drive update for AMD slated for release soon and it's expected deliver not just ray-tracing support, but also a new frame rate boosting feature, allowing AMD to compete with Nvidia in the budget GPU segment.

According to TechRadar, the new feature should be more useful for AMD's entry-level or budget GPUs, such as the upcoming Radeon RX5500. This Radeon Boost technology is a form of adaptive resolution tech, which is supposed to be able to adjust a game's resolution on the fly. It does this by decreasing resolution during frames with lots of changes or movement, then restore it to normal for static frames.

As you can surmise, this isn't a big deal for high-end GPUs that have the power to deliver constantly high and stable frame rates. However, weaker GPUs can take advantage it to provide greater responsiveness and smoothness in games. Of course, we'll have to wait for the Radeon RX 5500 and the new driver update to see how effective such a combination could be for budget AMD GPUs.
