In 2025, the one system that's become common is generative AI. Even some mid-range devices have generative AI, which is why mobile chipsets now have more emphasis on AI performance. The latest Counterpoint Research report confirms that shipments of Gen-AI chipsets are on the rise.
Major increase in year-on-year
According to Counterpoint Research (via GSMArena), mobile chipsets capable of processing generative AI account for 35% of all smartphone chipsets this year. The total is estimated to be a 74% year-on-year increase from 2024. Interestingly, Apple leads with 46% of that total despite Apple Intelligence still (arguably) being in its infancy. Qualcomm is second with 35%, while MediaTek is third with 12%.
If you're wondering why Apple's market share is so high, it's due to the company's latest Apple A19 series chipsets. As mentioned, some mid-range phones also have Gen-AI now. In fact, 38% of the gen-AI smartphone market consists of mid-range devices. This is estimated to be a 3 times increase compared to last year.

The moible Gen-AI trend continues
Although we're not analysts, it's obvious that the trend of adding gen-AI to smartphones will continue. Expect more mid-range phones to have Gen-AI in 2026, but probably not in entry-level devices. Or could that also change in the future, maybe when demand for chatbots increase among entry-level smartphone users? Something to consider.
