During the pandemic, the need for gadget devices increased as we were forced to be lockdown at home. However, it seems that the demand has decreased. According to Canalys, smartphone shipments went down 9% in Q2 2022 globally.

In the report, the Canalys Research Analyst said that there is an oversupplied of mid-range devices resulting in a pileup of inventories. The price adjustments due to the supply disruption and motherboard shortages have made many flagship customers to mid-range tier devices, and mid-range customers turn to entry-level devices.

Back to the chart, the graphs below show that brands such as Samsung and Apple's shipments have fallen considerably. While Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo are below them, they have a steady climb during the second quarter of this year. The analyst said that brands will have to change their strategy due to the recent inflation and low demands.

Canalys mentioned Samsung is doing well with its Galaxy A series which tallies with the analysis whereas the iPhone 13 series are still in high demand. Although Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo are still steady, it was reported that they are struggling in China. All in all, it has to do with the weakened demand from the population from the said inflation this year.
