Looks like Elon Musk has been super active as of late. Recently, the CEO of X and SpaceX announced that Tesla’s Cybercab service could arrive by this August. That said, what should you know about it?

For your information, Tesla will launch their robotaxi service next August. During the company's financial report for Q1 2024 this morning, Tesla showed the design of a self-driving app to use this service. Interestingly, you can see the "Summon" function for customers to call a robotaxi.

In addition, the app includes features such as the desired cabin temperature, filtering the rightful users and so forth. During the Q&A session, Elon Musk said the service will be called Cybercab. Plus, Tesla vehicle owners can list their vehicles for use by Cybercab. That’s quite similar to the existing Grab e-hailing service.

Moreover, you can set who is allowed to use it and filter out only customers with a certain number of stars. With Cybercab, you can generate income when the car is not being used. The robotaxi service was announced more than 6 years ago. At the time, Musk predicted that over 1 million of their self-driving taxis would be in operation by 2020. Like the Roadster, Cybertruck and Tesla Semi projects, all of Musk's promises have been delayed.

But it does not end there, the FSD system that provides "self-driving" capabilities is only Level 2 at this time. This is in contrast to the Waymo service by Google which has already been operating without a human driver in San Francisco since 2022. We have yet to confirm if this service will be available in Malaysia. But, it will be interesting to see how Malaysians will react to it.
