On 16 December 2015, Cyberview (Cyberjaya Sdn Bhd), TeratoTech and Microsoft Malaysia have worked hand in hand to initiate a programming workshop for coming young generation. The Cyberview Minecraft Camp 2015, which saw 28 participants between the ages of 8 - 12 join the two-day camp, which was held on the 8th and 9th of December at the Pentagon Suite, Wisma Suria, Cyberjaya.

In the world of Minecraft, the game allows players from all over the world to mine resources and build anything they desire. The online game has gained excellent review among gamers, media and parents alike for it became an educational tool in encouraging people to be creative and some programming skills. This is also why Minecraft was chosen, as part of Microsoft’s ‘Hour of Code’ global campaign.

Cyberview Managing Director, Faris Yahaya expressed that, “We are keen to encourage the growth and development of future generation of talents, with tools that will empower them in creating the next big thing in technology. Our collaboration with Terato Tech and Microsoft with their ‘Hour of Code’ initiative is in line with our goal to teach and seed interest in the digital technology among the younger generation. We believe that this program can help steer them to explore deeper into the field of programming and information technology, and in turn encourage them to bring to life their own creations, technology or applications”.

In other news, Cyberview has also recently secured a Smart City Catalyst funding from the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC). This is to to implement a Smart Traffic Management System, or Smart Traffic Lights on the streets of Cyberjaya.

The idea of Smart Traffic Lights, is to manage the public services and vehicle traffic more efficiently and improving the standard and quality of life in the city and environmental sustainability. It was first announced in the National Internet of Things (IoT) Strategic Roadmap (a collaboration with MIMOS), and Cyberview is currently in collaboration with Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM, a wholly owned subsidiary Intelsec Sdn. Bhd.) to foresee the operation. The Cyberjaya Smart Traffic Lights is the first project under the purview of Cyberview’s Smart City Infrastructure focus.

Faris Yahaya, Managing Director of Cyberview Sdn Bhd said, “The Smart Traffic Lights will be a reality, with help of the Smart City catalyst funding by MDeC. As the Technology Hub Enabler in Malaysia, Cyberview sees the implementation of the smart city project to be inline with the goal of advancing Cyberjaya into a Global Technology Hub (GTH). The Smart Traffic Lights can be seen as a benchmark by other Smart City projects.”

“The installation of smart solutions for the first time in Cyberjaya also enhances the Living Lab proposition of using Cyberjaya as a test bed for new and innovative technologies. The project can be set as a benchmark to be followed by other Smart City projects,” added Faris later on.

Smart Traffic Lights uses IoT-based system, which means the traditional legacy connectivity and hard-wired data collection systems will not be used, but instead will be equipped with an LTE-equipped controller that controls cameras with analytic capabilities, that is mounted above the traffic lights. This will give the camera to analyze the traffic condition, and will intelligently direct traffic at the intersection to reduce waiting time at traffic lights.
