The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced that not all car parks under its management are free of charge after office hours. This clarification was in response to a recent viral video complaining about parking touts in Bukit Bintang which allegedly scratched her car.
As reported by Bernama, DBKL in a statement said that there are 11 licensed car jockey parking facilities in Kuala Lumpur. As for the viral complaint on parking touts, the city hall asserted that investigations show that the open car park next to a lane off Jalan Sultan Ismail is under its control and fees are applicable during office hours (until 5pm).
However, DBKL has contracted a private company to manage 8 parking spaces as valet services after office hours. The city hall has since directed the valet service operator to display informational signs at their designated locations to inform the public about the service. DBKL will also increase enforcement and surveillance in concentrated areas against parking touts, namely at Bukit Bintang, Jalan Beremi and Jalan Walter Grenier.
