Following the announcement of the Malaysian government's decision to main the Single Wholesale Network (SWN) for Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), DNB released a statement not too long after. Basically, the announcement was about DNB welcoming the decision and also encouraging telecommunications companies to subscribe for the equity stakes.

DNB is also looking forward to engaging with the telcos to discuss and agree on all aspects related to the proposed equity participation of the company. The company said they will work with their stakeholders and the telcos to deliver fair, equal and affordable access to high quality 5G services for the benefit of the Rakyat.

On that note, DNB will be extending its ongoing commercial pilot to 30 June 2022. This is so that the company can facilitate a seamless transition for the telcos that have yet to sign up. Initially, the commercial pilot that started on 15 December 2021 was supposed to end on 31 March 2022. It allows the telcos to access the network without charge, to provide 5G experiences to their end-users.

DNB's objective to rollout 5G connectivity is to achieve 80% coverage of populated areas by 2024. You can also head over to our news coverage of how the government will only retain a 30% equity stake in DNB here. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
