Independent smartphone, lenses and cameras benchmarking company DXOMARK recently released its ranking for the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max. According to their tests, the top-range iPhone scored 157, placing it as the world’s 4th best smartphone camera setup.
This makes only three other smartphones placing higher than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which are the HUAWEI Pura 70 Ultra, Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and HONOR Magic6 Pro in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively. However, the video shooting capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro Max reign supreme over the rest, placing 1st in the category.
DXOMARK noted that among the pros of the iPhone 16 Pro Max include:
- Best video mode on a smartphone
- Excellent for taking pictures and videos of friends and family
- Wide dynamic range across the entire zoom range
- Accurate white balance and natural colour rendering
- Excellent levels of detail and texture in bright light
- Fast and accurate autofocus
- Effective video stabilisation
Meanwhile, the cons of the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s camera system are:
- Inconsistent detail across zoom range, lack of detail in ultra-wide photos
- Narrow depth of field results in out-of-focus background subjects in group shots
- Unwanted artefacts, including flare, ghosting, ringing, and aliasing
