In this latest news from our dear government, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Adhidi Zainul Abidin has proposed a service charge for online purchases in the future for Malaysians. Reason being? It's for improving the government communications security system.

At the moment, the proposal is still being considered and has not been approved yet as this approach is one of the steps to find other sources that won't burden the rakyat. In case you're wondering, the service online charge would be 0.02% so if you purchase an item online that is RM1000, the service online charge is RM0.20 cents.

As a proposed service charge to help cover the cost of their communications and avoid more cyber-attacks online, he assured that this is not the same as Goods and Service Tax (GST) as online purchases don't require any taxes. Since it's still at the early planning stage, the government still has yet to set a minimum purchase that allows the service charge.

But what do you folks think? Is the government making a wrong move again? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
