Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka appoints 3 social media influencers to promote the proper use of language

Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) has announced that it has appointed 3 social media influencers to help promote the use of proper language among the public. Dubbed as “language icons”, among the influencers include Dr. Malar Santhi Santherasegapan, a doctor serving in the Emergency Department at Columbia Asia Hospital in Cheras, Selangor, with a sizeable following on social media. 

According to Bernama, DBP asserted that the move shows that it wants to keep pace with current developments as language can no longer be disseminated traditionally. Its director-general, Dr Hazami Jahar, added that if it is needed, DBP will also hold a special session with media friends to provide the fundamentals of proper language use, as the media has a strong influence on language development.

He added that with social media becoming a preferred means of communication, DBP is committed to actively utilising it to showcase examples of proper language use and quality content. Hazami was quoted saying the above during the 2024 DBP Media Night at Wisma DBP in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
