Two months ago, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (“Digi”) planted their first Digi tower in Setia Alam as promised from their #DigiWeWant4G Twitter campaign. They are still on the roll by announcing Lunas, Batu Gajah, Jejawi and Arau as their next location to install the 4G LTE network as voted by Malaysians.

Digi’s Head of Northern Region, Siew Chee Kong said, “Following up from our 4G LTE rollout in Setia Alam in the Klang Valley, we are now happy to announce that we’ve completed the rollout in the four towns up north where Malaysians have tweeted their desire for Digi’s 4G LTE coverage in their areas. As of this week, we have deployed and switched on our 4G LTE infrastructure to serve customers in Lunas, Batu Gajah, Jejawi and Arau. In total for the northern region, we now have 64% population coverage of our high speed 4G LTE network serving customers in 34 cities, districts and towns.”

“We wanted to give our customers a special Chinese New Year surprise and what better way than to gift 4G LTE – that’s why we’re powering-up 4G LTE in Lunas and three other towns today. We’re calling these the people’s towers since they were voted for by customers through Twitter,” Siew said.

In no particular order, the Top 10 most voted areas are:

  • SetiaAlam, Selangor
  • Jejawi, Perlis
  • Lunas, Kedah
  • Arau, Perlis
  • Batu Gajah, Perak
  • Limbang, Sarawak
  • Papar, Sabah
  • Tenom, Sabah
  • Bau, Sarawak
  • Simpang Renggam, Johor

Started from last November, the #DigiWeWant4G Twitter campaign is an effort to reach out to Malaysians, giving the power to them by simply nominating their towns to be the next in line to get 4G LTE. All they had to do was tweet the hashtag #DigiWeWant4G followed by the location's name. Even though the campaign has already ended on 15 Dember 2015, Digi promises to expand its 4G LTE network to the top 10 most voted areas regardless.

In addition, Digi is also working to bring Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) and Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi) services, and compatible 4G LTE smartphones to customers this year. VoLTE will improve calling experience with better quality audio, faster calling connections and simultaneous data usage, whereas the VoWiFi will boost connection speed in indoors.

“We are excited that Malaysians see the value of good 4G LTE coverage, and look forward to see Digi customers enjoy a consistent high-speed internet experience on-the-go with for all they want to do: high-quality video and music streaming, faster sharing on social media and internet browsing, and more. We will bring 4G LTE to all Top 10 areas in 2016.” Siew concluded.
