Digi recently gave their Quarterly Network Update presentation on their upcoming plans in the future. One of the key points they pointed out was an improved expansion of their 4G LTE network coverage, as it has increased to 60% of the population coverage. This is the result of their engineers, busy expanding Digi's 4G LTE network for the past few months in 80 major cities and towns (key market centres 95% population coverage). They have also switched its 4G LTE-Advanced (4G LTE-A) network nationwide with a 22% coverage footprint (50% population coverage in key market centres).
“For us, it's about delivering a string network and customer experience across the board. We are building more sites to densify the network and overlaying a large number of our sites to dual band, 1800 Mhz and 2600 Mhz, to ensure that our customers experience consistently higher Internet speeds with improved outdoor and indoor coverage, we designed our network to also deliver a minimum signal strength quality of -110 dbm. We are pleased that our customers can also now enjoy 4G LTE-A in key market centres nationwide such as Klang Valley, Penang, Perak, Kuantan, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching, and at a consistent speed of more than 10Mpbs 80% of the time. We believe the Internet is for everyone, and every Malaysian should have the opportunity to benefit from being connected. We will continue investing heavily in building a high-quality network that has all the necessary elements of coverage, density and technology to deliver the consistent Internet experience and next-genentation service our customers deserve.” Digi's Chief Network Offier, Kesavan Sivabalan.
After that, Christian Thrane, Digi’s Chief Marketing Officer also announced a Twitter campaign for customers called #DigiWeWant4G. How this works is customers can nominate their towns (#city or town) in Twitter to Digi for their 4G LTE network rollout. Digi will choose the top 10 most requested areas to expand their 4G LTE.
“Basically, we’re telling customers ‘You Tweet, We Build'. Our customers have always been central to our business; the same applies when rolling out our 4G LTE network. We want to hear from our customers where they would like to enjoy a consistent high-speed Internet experience and this campaign will put them firmly in the driving seat.” Christian Thrane, Digi’s Chief Marketing Officer
The Digi Twitter campaign will start on 16 November until 16 December 2015. In addition to that, Digi has also stated that they are already working on Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE and Voice-over-WiFi (WoWiFi) services for customers to enjoy high quality audio, faster call connections and consistent data flow; and VoWiFi for customers to enjoy indoor coverage.
