Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has revealed that his Ministry and the Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) are studying the impact of technology on jobs and to identify the jobs of the near future in Malaysia. Accordingly, the recently launched National ArtificiaI Intelligence Office (NAIO) will play a role in this and provide recommendations to ensure Malaysians remain in the workforce.

Bernama quoted Gobind as saying that he understands how some people are concerned about the use of technology and how it will impact jobs. However, he stressed that the aspect of jobs is extremely important to the Government.

The Digital Minister added that while the Government use technology to elevate businesses and the economy, it must ensure that people have jobs. In fact, Gobind revealed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had last month instructed his Ministry to look at jobs that would be impacted by AI. 

Hence, NAIO will, among others, look into this and make recommendations. Gobind also assured that while the Government values technology, it will give its fullest attention to the evolving job landscape to ensure people remain in the workforce.
