Encouraging Malaysians to use electric vehicles (EVs) involves more than buying the cars; access to more EV infrastructure and affordable EVs are both important for wider EV adoption. Fortunately, many companies are willing to invest here, including Dongfeng and Volt Auto.
Long-term commitment
At a recent media gathering, Dongfeng and Volt Auto reaffirmed their long-term commitment to the Malaysian market. Dongfeng shared several key updates on its direction and growth plans in the country. The company also announced a competition to find a suitable local ambassador to promote its EVs. More details on that later.
During the briefing, Volt Auto addressed the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry's (MITI) recent announcement regarding the minimum CIF value for CBU EVs. The local EV distributor considers the move a positive reset for both companies and the wider EV industry. Volt Auto also called for automotive players to take a long-term, committed approach to Malaysia.
Volt Auto's local plans
On local assembly plans, Volt Auto shared that CKD plans are already part of its roadmap for this year. This aligns with MITI's recent announcement and Volt Auto's direction for the Malaysian EV industry. The company didn't provide any specifics in that regard. However, more details will be revealed once the relevant confidentiality clauses are lifted.

Dongfeng CKD builds will be available in Malaysia
Besides the above, Volt Auto mentioned that after-sales support will be one of its top priorities when appointing dealership partners. This will reassure Malaysian customers of the distributor's commitment to delivering long-term ownership confidence and customer experience.
Dongfeng Brand Ambassador Campaign
As mentioned, Dongfeng is also running a campaign to appoint a local ambassador. According to Dongfeng, the ongoing Dongfeng Brand Ambassador Campaign runs until 31 July 2026. This campaign is part of the EV manufacturer's efforts to further strengthen public engagement and visibility in Malaysia. Dongfeng is encouraging media and content creators to take part, so visit the campaign page for more details.
