Today, Dongfeng Motor Corporation has officially expanded its electric vehicle portfolio in Malaysia with the introduction of two new models, the Dongfeng 007 electric sedan and the Dongfeng VIGO electric SUV. The announcement marks a new phase in Dongfeng’s local strategy as it partners with Volt Auto and Central Auto Distributors Bhd to bring next-generation electric vehicles to Malaysian buyers.
As part of the launch, Dongfeng is also offering an extended ownership package that includes a complimentary ABB wall box, a six-year vehicle warranty with unlimited mileage, and an eight-year powertrain warranty with unlimited mileage.
The Dongfeng 007
Leading the expansion is the Dongfeng 007, which is expected to be priced from RM161000 after a special launch discount of RM8888. Performance highlights include a 0 to 100 km per hour time of 3.9 seconds, a driving range of up to 650 km, fast charging that can deliver significant range in around 11 minutes, an electric liftback design for added practicality, and a WANOS premium 19 speaker surround sound system with headrest audio.
The Dongfeng VIGO
Making its Malaysian debut alongside the 007 is the Dongfeng VIGO, an electric SUV designed with a generous interior space, including a 500 litre boot and an additional 72 litre hidden compartment, supported by a long wheelbase and a high usable space ratio for its segment. A defining feature of the VIGO is its “Heaven and Earth Gate” split tailgate, which can support loads of up to 150 kg. This design allows the rear of the vehicle to double as a practical platform for activities such as camping, tailgating, or outdoor gatherings, reinforcing Dongfeng’s focus on versatility and lifestyle-driven design.
Inside, the VIGO features a Smart Cockpit centred around a 12.8-inch HD touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Intelligent scene modes such as Rest, Camping, and Music Speaker allow the cabin to adapt automatically to different usage scenarios. Additional features include a 50W wireless fast charging pad, panoramic sunroof, 256 colour ambient lighting with music synchronisation, and 3.3 kW vehicle to load capability for powering outdoor equipment.
The VIGO is enhanced by Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems and a 540-degree panoramic camera with transparent chassis view, while extensive sound insulation contributes to a quiet cabin experience.
The VIGO supports DC fast charging of up to 167 kW, enabling an 80% charge in approximately 18 minutes, and features an intelligent thermal management system designed for Malaysia’s tropical climate. Pricing is expected to start from RM100000 after the same RM8888 launch discount.
Ambassador Search and Long-Term Malaysia Plans
To mark its entry into Malaysia, Dongfeng is also launching a Dongfeng Ambassador Search, inviting Malaysians from diverse backgrounds to represent the brand. Three winners will receive cash prizes of up to RM100000, along with one year of car sponsorship using a Dongfeng model of their choice.
Looking ahead, Dongfeng has announced plans to establish a strong local presence to support sales and after-sales operations, with the possibility of exploring local knock-down assembly in the future.
