In case you didn’t know, DuitNow QR can now be used overseas. So, what should you know about it?

An incentive to boost tourism

According to Wiser, Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) and Ant International have expanded their collaboration through a new MoU signed at MyFintech Week 2025. This collaboration focuses on four main pillars, namely:

  • Driving tourism through cross-border digital payments.
  • Strengthen security against fraud with advanced technology.
  • Fintech talent development through programs like PayHack and 10 x 1000 Tech for Inclusion.
  • Sustainability agenda and social impact in the payment ecosystem.

Making business more convenient

Thanks to this MoU, DuitNow QR is expanded to the Alipay+ global ecosystem which consists of over 100 million merchants. This gives Malaysians the convenience of making payments seamlessly using their preferred app while abroad.

At the same time, Malaysia could market itself as a more marketable country. This could be in line with the target of 45 million tourists by Visit Malaysia 2026, as well as opening up wider opportunities for local SMEs.
