A Dutch court has ordered Facebook and Instagram to display non-algorithmic timelines to users in the country. The timelines, which use user data, were found to be in breach of the European Union (EU) Digital Services Act (DSA). So, what should you know about it?
Meta has 2 weeks to act
For your information, Meta has been given two weeks to provide users with a simple option to view their timeline without the algorithmically driven content feed.
Moreover, a chronological timeline without profiling the account holder's usage habits must also be offered. At the same time, Meta is not allowed to reset the algorithmically driven timeline every time the app is reopened.
Meta representatives said they would appeal the court's order. Meta also stated that changes to the system had already been made to meet the DSA's requirements.
