EA has combined its Access and Origin platforms into EA Play

Sometimes it's not a good idea to have too many platforms. It seems that EA finally realises this and has decided to combine two of its services into one. The company has confirmed that EA Access and EA Origin has been are now part of a single platform called EA Play.

According to EA, EA Play will contain games from both subscription services. Starting from 18 August 2020, EA Access and Origin Access Basic will be the base subscription plan. There will also be an EA Play Pro premium service, which will replace EA Origin Access Premier. The benefits still apply, however, including 10% membership discount, early game trials, and access to EA's library of games.

Access and Origin will be folded into the new EA Play

It makes sense for EA to combine its services, rather than have its subscriber base segregated like before. However, EA still has a long way to go to match the likes of Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus. For starters, the company will have to implement online match-making for the platform to be worth using. EA did announce that it will add in-game challenges and monthly rewards for members but didn't specify what the rewards are.

In terms of pricing, EA Play Basic will cost USD 4.99/month (~RM21/month) while EA Play Pro will cost USD 14.99/month (~RM63/month), so it's not a better deal than the more commonly used PlayStation Plus.
