The European Union (EU) on Wednesday imposed a fine of 700 million euros (~RM 3.5 billion) on Apple and Meta after the two tech and social media giants were found to have violated the bloc's digital competition rules. So, what should you know about it?
For your information, it was a huge blow to the two US companies. The action was also seen as potentially provoking the anger of US President Donald Trump. The European Commission fined Apple 500 million euros after the company was found to have prevented developers from steering customers away from the App Store to access cheaper deals.
Meanwhile, Meta was fined 200 million euros for its "pay or agree" system after it violated rules on the use of personal data on Facebook and Instagram. We have yet to confirm other details on the news. So, we should wait for more confirmation from the EU. Hopefully, everything will be sorted soon.
