As time moves on, eventually more and more formerly flagship features will be available in mid-range and even entry-level devices. TWS (True Wireless Sound) earbuds like the Edifier X5 Pro are no exception, as this RM259-priced device offers Active Noise Cancellation and touch-sensitive controls. But how does it perform? Find out in our review of the Edifier X5 Pro below.
Design-wise, the Edifier X5 Pro goes for the standard longer stem look with pretty blue crystal-like tops. Touch controls are located on the side near these tops. But we have to say that, on occasion, they can be rather iffy or unresponsive. When it does work, it's fine. But this response lag does need some getting used to.
Nonetheless, other design features are just fine as the Edifier X5 Pro earpieces fit snugly into our ears and stayed there with no problems. They didn't fall out even with serious headbanging, and there are also extra smaller and bigger earbud gels for a better fit.

The charging case is small and pebble-shaped with an Edifier logo and a small status LED on the front. On the bottom, there's a manual pairing button and a USB Type-C port for charging. The lid flips open easily and stays in place for good build quality. However, the overall shape does make it a bit slippery to hold, especially since there's nowhere to attach a lanyard.
Pairing up the Edifier X5 Pro is simple. Usually, opening up the lid of the case or taking it out is enough to trigger a pairing response. However, you can still press the button on the case to pair manually as well. Once paired, you can change audio presets like Classic and Rock in the Edifier ConneX app. You can also turn on the game mode or Active Noise Cancellation, but there are no custom equalizer settings.
The Edifier X5 Pro case is smooth yet compact pebble
In terms of sound performance, the Edifier X5 Pro offers crystal clear audio that is focused a bit more on balance rather than treble or bass. Make no mistake though, the 10mm dynamic drivers with Titanium coated diaphragms deliver great sound for both. This provides a good, stable, all-rounder performance for any type of music you play, be it an atmospheric game soundtrack, or a vocal-focused ballad about love.
According to Edifier, the Edifier X5 Pro has 0.08s latency. But we have to assume that this is only if you turn on game mode. If you don't, then you may notice a slight response lag from the point when you shoot to the point when you hear the bullet sound. Fortunately, it is easy to turn this game mode on and off. But, just make sure to turn it off once you're done, as it creates a bit of static when listening to music.
You can control basic presets and the game mode in the Edifier ConneX app
The Edifier X5 Pro works well at all ranges, even behind closed doors (so it should be fine for bathroom audiophiles). And if you splash water on it, it's IP55 dust and splash-resistant, so you shouldn't have issues. The aforementioned Active Noise Canceling is a bit basic though, as it doesn't mask noise completely.
Other standout features include 31 hours of playback time with the case and ANC off and 22 hours with ANC on (7 hours for each earpiece, according to Edifier). It also has fast charging and the two microphones deliver stable crystal clear voice.
Here's what's in the box
Overall, the Edifier X5 Pro is a compact yet stylish pair of TWS that should suit most pockets and handbags. The stable yet clear all-rounder audio should please most users, but might not be enough for those with bass-heavy playlists. The ANC only works to a certain extent, but this is to be expected for an RM259 TWS.
