A new data analysis released by Consumer Reports on Friday showed that Tesla's ten-year maintenance and repair costs are the most affordable in the auto industry. Even Tesla CEO Elon Musk quoted the report on Twitter, saying, "Tesla maintenance costs the lowest cost”. That said, what should you know about it?

According to this data analysis, Tesla's ten-year maintenance cost is only $4035 (~RM19285.83), while the corresponding costs for Landrover and Porsche are as high as $19250 (~RM92,009.74) and $14090 (~RM67,338.11) respectively. The maintenance cost of a Tesla car is only US$580 (~RM2,771.90) within 1-5 years, which is much lower than the US$900 (~RM4,301.13) of the second-place Buick.

In addition, it is worth mentioning that among the top five car brands with the lowest maintenance costs, four are American companies, namely Tesla, Buick, Lincoln and Ford. "Over a ten-year period, maintenance and repair costs can vary by thousands of dollars between brands," said Steven Elek, director of Consumer Reports' automotive data analysis program. Steven also added:

"In addition, maintenance and repair costs for luxury models tend to change over time. It’s very expensive.”

The report shows Tesla on top followed by Buick ($4,900), Toyota ($4,900) and Lincoln ($5,040). Elek pointed out that the report mainly looked at repair and maintenance costs between 1-5 years and 6-10 years.

Additionally, Elek noted, “If you are considering a luxury car, it may be wiser to choose an American brand with lower maintenance and repair costs. For example, the ten-year maintenance and repair cost of a Mercedes-Benz model is significantly higher than that of a Lincoln. Double." To conduct this analysis, the Consumer Reports research team contacted 2023 Annual Auto Survey participants to learn how much they paid out of pocket for total maintenance costs (including oil changes and maintenance services) and repair costs.

We have yet to confirm other details on the subject. However, we could expect Tesla enthusiasts in Malaysia to be excited about these findings. After all, everyone loves everything that is good value for money.
