The annual Google I/O 2017 developer conference was just recently commenced and boy does it have a bunch in store for us in the coming 2017. This time around though, it seems that Google I/O has decided to focus more on software than hardware so we will not be expecting new Google Glasses announcements anytime soon.
We at TechNave understands that not everybody might’ve had the chance to watch the whole conference so we took the liberty to list down a few of the important parts and some summaries to help you get your scoop from the big event so far. Here goes:
- Improved Gmail – The default mailing app will get the smart reply function that has en available in the Inbox app.
- Google Lens – A new recognition engine that allows your phone camera to be able to perform text and object recognitions. E.g. taking a picture of a flower to determine what type of flower it is or taking a snapshot of your router serial numbers to automatically connect to it.
- Google Jobs – A job-seeking app with a complex AI to make it easier to find your ideal job based on your qualifications and location.
- Android O – The latest upcoming OS update for Android based phones. Features new notification upgrades, smart copy & paste with performance and security updates.
- Android Go – A smaller, less-demanding version of Android OS for any low-end devices with 1GB RAM or less.
- Improved Google Assistant - More upgrades to the original Google Assistant including adding tech dialects and translation options to help with complex searches as well as online transactions. Integrates with Google Lens and and Google Home.
- Google Home – A smart speaker with the Google Assistant for smart homes. The assistant will be able to send visual responses to your device of choice (Chromecast TV, calendar or your smartphone).

- YouTube – Enable creators to stream or upload YouTube 360 videos on the YouTube app or smart TV. Added a Super Chat function which lets you donate money to your favourite YouTuber or content creator during their livestreams. Activating Super Chat during their livestreams will also trigger certain animations or even real life events.
