In this era, you might realise that some ads that appear when you are surfing online are based on your interest. For most people, that’s logical. However, it seems that some people didn’t get the memo.

Recently, PAS Senator Hussin Ismail complained in the House of Representatives about excessive pornographic advertisements. He also asked the Communications Ministry if they were going to act on this issue. Interestingly, Digital Communications Minister Fahmi explained that online ads are usually based on the user’s interest.

Moreover, social media has its algorithm. So, Fahmi advised the MP to clear the cache and browsing history before handing over mobile phones to children. Fahmi also says he would inform social media platforms to ban the promotion of pornographic advertisements in Malaysia. Notably, 1,402 pieces of hate content related to race, religion, and the royal family (3R) have been removed from social media from 1 January to 15 November 2023.
