Do you start posting angry face emojis when a phone you want has an Exynos chipset? In that case, you might have to skip the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 later this year. Earlier reports say the Exynos 2500 is coming in 2H 2025, and the device with it was seemingly confirmed.
According to the ChosunBiz, the Exynos 2500 chipset will debut in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 in July 2025. This is despite low yields of only 20% to 40% for the Exynos 2500. For your info, Samsung's target yield rate before mass production is typically 60% yield for the chosen chipset. Samsung allegedly plans to start mass production this month and expects to secure 200000 units by June 2025.
The report also cites an industry insider who claimed the reason is "largely due to price", referring to the higher price of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Foldable devices don't ship as many units as the mainline flagship Galaxy S series, so lower yields are less impactful on the shipment target. On the bright side, it's said that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 would not feature the Exynos 2500.
Qualcomm is known for steep increases in chip prices annually, so it's not surprising that Samsung wants to reduce its cost for sourcing Snapdragon chips, even if only a little. But what do you think of this? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
