While other VR headsets needs a smartphone to be mounted and tethered to the goggles, IDEALENS K2 need no such thing. This is because the headset has the innards of a smartphone built right into the device itself.

The autonomous nature of the K2 means that, unlike other mobile VR headsets, the Idealens K2 has its own screen, its own processor, RAM, and even battery. In this case, it has a 3.81-inch, 2560 x 1440 display, a Samsung Exynos 7420, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, and a 3800 mAh battery. In other words, it has a Samsung Galaxy S6 stuck inside a Gear VR2, with a much bigger battery.

It also achieves a latency of 17ms, which is faster than the 20ms limit for comfortable viewing. It also runs its own fork of Android called Ideal OS. It's controlled with two sets of hardware controls — volume buttons on its left side and a touchpad on the right for navigation purposes.
