Are you a fan of Facebook Messenger? It looks like you would soon be able to react to individual messages on the popular app. The feature, which is already available on Facebook’s News Feed, is currently being tested by random users. There’s a total of 5 reaction emoji(s) and another 2 others, which are thumbs up and thumbs down, which meant you could now dislike or disagree to a message. The 5 reaction emoji includes expression of love, funny, shocked, sad, and frown.

The thumbs down reaction is something new that is not being offered as a response on News Feed, which, according to TechCrunch, Facebook seemed to think that, when put in context within Messenger, could serve as an agree/disagree option. Example, when used in a group chat, it could be used as a voting process.

"We’re always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message." - Facebook statement via TechCrunch

It has been one year since Reactions had been made available for News Feed, and it had generated 300 billion responses thus far, with more than half being accounted for by the Love reaction, proving the popularity of using reactions as a form of expression. Since this feature is currently in its testing phase, not every Messenger user has access to it yet. If the testing goes well, eventually all users will be receiving this new feature.
