An Instagram for kids? Yup, at least that's the idea for now according to Instagram Vice President, Vishal Shah. The company is planning to develop an app version for those who are under the age of 13 and it's now on the priority list. In case you didn't know, the current app version doesn't allow children under the age of 13 to use it.

Shah further commented that Community Product Group will have two focuses on building the new app for kids. First, accelerating our integrity and privacy work to ensure the safest possible experience for teens and secondly, building a version of Instagram that allows people under the age of 13 to safely use Instagram for the first time. In a way, it would be following the footsteps of YouTube Kids.

The announcement was made after a few public criticisms of teens facing abuse, bullying or online predation. The project would be supervised by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri and Facebook Vice President, Pavni Diwanji. Diwanji was a former executive in Google, where she was involved with YouTube Kids so this should be a big help for Instagram.

At the moment, there's no blueprint yet but practically, Instagram wants to build a solution for kids where parents have some transparent monitoring or control.
