Facebook introduces new ways for users to customise what they see in their feeds

Meta-owned social media platform Facebook has announced that it is making it easier for users to customise what they see in their feeds. With the new update to the Facebook Feed, the company said that it aims to make content on the feed more relevant to each user.

In a blog post yesterday, Facebook revealed that users will start seeing ‘Show More’ and ‘Show Less’ options for each post on their feed. Should the users choose ‘Show More’, Facebook will temporarily increase the score for that post and related content. On the flip side, if you choose ‘Show Less’, the platform will temporarily reduce the score for that post and related content.

Through data from both options, Facebook will create a ranking score for each post on the platform. When you select the “Show More” option, Facebook will temporarily increase the score for that post and related content. When you select “Show Less,” the platform will temporarily reduce the score for that content. This score is used to determine what you see in your Facebook Feed.

Facebook said that this direct feedback incorporation into the Feed ranking makes the company’s artificial intelligence system smarter and more responsive. Initially, the new options will pop up periodically directly in users’ feeds to help users become more familiar with the new feature. However, you can always access the “Show More” and “Show Less” options at any time by tapping the three-dot menu on each post.

Besides that, Facebook is also introducing new options that let users control which sources of posts they want to see more or less of in the feed. These include choosing to see more posts from friends and family and fewer posts from groups and pages.
