During the pandemic, you may have gotten yourself into a new Facebook group based on your interest and hobbies. If you are, you may have also noticed something new in the group settings called Group Experts. It's a new tiny feature designed by Facebook which will highlight which members are the experts in a particular topic.

In any group, the admin can choose any member to be a certified Group Expert. From the image, you can clearly see the highlight blue font badge below the member's name. Since the admin can choose a member to be one, he or she can revoke it as well. At the moment, the badge is in a testing phase so it may take some time for the update to roll out globally.

Facebook is also finding ways for admins to find experts by prompting specific users like gaming and fitness. On top of that, they may find any topics in search of a new expert which may drive the growth of a certain group. A Group Expert can invite followers who have been in contact to join the group.

Of course, it can be dangerous if the Group Expert spreads misinformation but it's up to the admins. To also combat the amount of fake news and ensuring accurate information, a Facebook spokesperson said that the company already has ways to deal with misinformation, such as third-party fact-checkers. Members can also always report the post to the admins.
