Facebook is looking to add security protection for Messenger inbox

If you're paranoid about your Facebook inbox messages being seen, then you'll probably like what the company is currently testing. Facebook is reportedly testing a new feature that lets you add some security to the Messenger app. Specifically, it's said that the company is working on allowing you to add another layer of protection over your inbox.

According to Engadget, the new feature will make it possible to use the security features on your phone to lock Messenger's Inbox. Currently, it's being tested on iOS, so features like Face ID, Touch ID and passcodes will be usable. Essentially, how it works is by making it so that you'll need to use your designated security feature to unlock your inbox, even if your phone is already unlocked. The method used to unlock will be the same one you're using to unlock your phone.

Presumably, the idea here is to provide an extra layer of privacy. Let's say you happen to unlock your phone but had to put it done and leave it for whatever reason, then nobody can spy on your inbox while you're away. It feels like a rather pointless feature to work on, in my opinion, but I suppose it's always nice to have some redundancy when it comes to security.

Other than this feature, Facebook is also working on encrypted messaging and end-to-end encryption for Messenger. However, it'll probably be some time before we see those features added. With that said, is there feature currently not on Messenger that you feel is sorely needed? Share your opinions with us on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news like this.
