Looks like a bunch of developers under Facebook has recently unveiled a new social media platform called Hotline, which is a hybrid between Instagram Live as well as Clubhouse. As of now, it seems that the platform is currently web-based, which means it can be accessed via a web browser instead of downloading an app.
While there are many similarities between Clubhouse and Hotline, the main difference is that Hotline will produce a recording of the session in both mp3 and mp4 files which the host can then upload onto other platforms such as YouTube or Soundcloud. This could be one of the factors that could drive away potential users due to privacy concerns.
Not only that, but it seems that Hotline will be more focused on the interaction aspect between the host and the audience as it will group users with questions at the top of the list for the host to see. As of now, the feature is currently available in public beta and there is no news on whether it will be available to the general public in the near future.
It is best to note that this isn’t the only thing Facebook is testing out to challenge Clubhouse, as they are also testing out some Clubhouse-like features on Facebook Messenger as well.
